LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY

LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY

Lay Eucharistic Ministers are licensed by the bishop to assist the clergy in the distribution of bread and wine during Holy Communion.  They may also be licensed to take the consecrated elements to members of the congregation who could not be present on Sunday because of illness.

ACOLYTES

ACOLYTES

Acolytes are volunteer members of the

congregation who assist in worship by carrying the processional cross, torches, gospel book, and other liturgical items. At Holy Spirit, acolytes are

both youth and adult.

READER/LECTOR

LECTOR/READER

A Lector is a lay person trained in reading scripture who is appointed by the clergy person in charge of the congregation to read lessons or lead the prayers of the people. The term is from the Latin, "to read."

ALTAR GUILD

ALTAR GUILD

The Altar Guild holds a special ministry of preparing the sanctuary for worship each week and for special services. In addition to caring for the holy vessels used in Holy Communion, members also care for the sanctuary as a whole and provide flowers at

the altar each Sunday.

USHERS

USHERS

Ushers will often be the first people who greet you as you enter the sanctuary. Ushers hand out bulletins, provide assistance in finding seating, and welcome guests by helping them find their way around the facility.
